Description

Who we are

Launched in 2021, Wild Expeditions is a small tour company run by a wildlife cameraman and an aid worker who wanted to promote the protection and conservation of unique destinations across the world. We specialise in small group, low impact wildlife adventures to some of the most remote and wild places on the planet.

We have now grown our operations beyond our flagship expedition in Kyrgyzstan to include jungle expeditions in Guyana, and marine trips to Madagascar, and have plans to continue growing our portfolio over the coming years.

Learn more about us here.

We are known by our previous guests to provide unique, authentic and professionally run expeditions, providing high quality guiding, access to remote locations and a genuine concern for local community development and conservation initiatives. You can see more about what they say about us here.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for an exceptional expedition leader to join our team on a freelance basis. You will be responsible for leading our Guyana expeditions, with the opportunity to lead other jungle-based trips we launch in the future.

You will have experience leading jungle trips (with time spent in primary forests in remote areas), as well as humble approach to leadership, prioritising the guest experience throughout.

You will be willing to work in a resource-poor environment, coordinate local networks of drivers, hotels and others, work alongside local guides and be a 24/7 support point for guests for the duration of the expedition.

What you’ll get in return

Renumeration

Dependent on experience, ranging between £150-£220/day during expedition dates + around £100/day for travel or down days

Per-diems to cover hotels, food and necessary travel expenses, this includes time between expedition dates when trips are running back-to-back.

A standardised flight allowance if travelling internationally.

Dates required

You must be available to work the below dates. Notes these are dates you will need to be in Guyana and working with guests.

2026: 18th – 29th November

Dates tbc confirmed for 2027 2028, but this will likely also be in the month of November, with possible expansion to October and December.

Essential Requirements

Language: Fluent English

First Aid: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or equivalent, or willingness to obtain this before departure.

Personal character: High standards of professionalism and leadership alongside a genuine desire to help conserve the natural environment and contribute to conservation through the expedition. And of course a sense of humour.

Legal: Relevant personal insurance

Overall experience

  • Experience working as a lead tour guide on jungle trips. This does not need to be in Guyana specifically but must include jungle environments
  • Working knowledge of risk assessments specific to jungle and remote trips, plus the associated safety protocols
  • Experience delivering briefings to groups in a concise and clear manner, ensuring guests and partners have a clear understanding of what’s happening, how and when.
  • Experience managing expedition budgets and in-country payments
  • Experience managing expedition logistics and remaining agile to trouble-shoot and find solutions to problems as they arise, without damaging the overall experience for guests wherever possible.

Desirable Experience

  • Specialist knowledge of jungle-specific first aid
  • Specialist knowledge of the jungle life in Guyana
  • Knowledge of the history, culture and overall environment of Guyana and the wider region, or a willingness to learn this
  • Experience or working knowledge of jungle-based fauna and flora research, such as mist netting, would be a big advantage
  • Qualifications related to canoeing, trekking and/or motor boating
  • Experience of managing small group trips with affluent guests which have a bespoke element to them
  • We welcome and encourage Guyanese applicants whether currently living in Guyana or internationally
