FULL TIME (4-6 Month Contract) WALKING AND CYCLING ROUTE FINDERS REQUIRED

Are you a guide or instructor who is a very confident navigator and happy travelling/walking/cycling alone? Maybe you are an experienced guide, freelance instructor, or recent graduate with exceptional outdoor skills who wants to travel. This 4-6-month fixed contract for the 2019 season could be the perfect full-time role, with fantastic opportunities to explore Europe.

Who are we?

Macs Adventure is a fast-growing adventure tour operator with offices in the UK, US and Germany and big future plans. We arrange self-guided walking and cycling holidays for thousands of customers in over 35 countries all over the world.

What are we looking for?

As part of our mission to deliver outstanding self-guided holidays we research all our trips. We are seeking resourceful individuals to create route notes for our self-guided walking and cycling holidays. This means going out “on the road” recording GPS data and producing turn-by-turn directions for our Macs App digital platform (full training on using our App will be provided).  The following skills and experience essential:

  • Experienced walker, cyclist and traveller
  • Excellent level of fitness
  • Strong map reading and navigational skills including compass use
  • Familiarity with a range of GPS and mapping software
  • First-rate written and verbal communication skills
  • Organised, efficient and resilient
  • Creative attitude to problem-solving
  • Great travel knowledge as well as a genuine interest in adventure travel
  • A breadth of travel experiences
  • Happy working alone and remotely
  • Accomplished photographer

What does the job involve?

You will be responsible for creating the route notes via the Macs App/Outdoor Active digital platform. Following the outline routes of new or current trips, you will record GPX tracks, writing careful turn by turn notes as you go. After the walk/cycle you will input all the information into the Macs App digital platform, upload images and write associated trip information and evaluation reports. You will attempt to resolve any routing issues in the field, and report in to the product manager in charge of each tour.

When and for how long?

Starting Spring 2018 for a 4-6 months fixed contract. Remuneration by daily rate plus all travel and living expenses will be covered whilst working for Macs. This role is not office based and involves full time travel for the duration of the contract (with pre-agreed time off). You could be in a new destination every week, so you must be available to spend an extended time away from home, solo, and with an unpredictable work pattern.

What next?

Send your CV with an accompanying email to [email protected] telling us why you are the right person for the job. We’d also like to know about your outdoor skills and knowledge, your navigational abilities, and your stand-out travel experiences.  In addition, please forward 10 of your best travel photos – send them as small files please! Application Deadline: January 30th, 2019

We are particularly keen to hear from members of the Explorers Connect community so please mention Explorers Connect in your application.
