Secret Compass are looking to recruit an experienced Operations Manager to coordinate, prioritise and oversee the logistics and delivery of COVID-19 testing, as part of our COVID-19 testing laboratory, Secret Compass COVID-19 Testing Laboratory (SCCTL).

The role will be based in Bristol.

This is a crucial role in the management, delivery and success of the Secret Compass COVID-19 Lab, which screens for the SARS-COV-2 in human biological specimens.

The role will require:

  • A willingness to take a fluid and dynamic approach, with strong organisational skills
  • Working closely with the Lab Manager in the coordination and delivery of any sample & testing requirements
  • High levels of attention to detail and sound knowledge of stock and inventory management, and end to end procurement
  • Understanding of contracting processes, and management of all contracts
  • Maintaining accuracy and currency of all documentation, working closely with the Lab Manager and Healthcare Scientist as necessary
  • Safeguarding of data protection policy
  • Willingness and ability to travel to location as required (including overnight stays)
  • Identifying and developing the Lab as a commercial enterprise.

In addition to the above responsibilities, you will be expected to actively engage with the wider organisation in developing and streamlining this pioneering screening programme as it progresses.

The Operations Manager will report to Secret Compass’ Operations Manager and Managing Director.


  • Managing and contracting any additional staff (whether Lab Technicians, Swab Technicians or Sample Collectors)
  • Manage and deliver all logistics associated with any sampling and testing requirements, in conjunction with the Lab Manager (and any Lab Technicians) and the Bookings Administrator
  • Ensuring accurate and timely management of assets and stock in relation to all aspects of sample collection and testing.
  • Manage end-to-end supply requirements to meet sample and testing requirements
  • Ensure documentation is accurately maintained and kept up to date, and shared with relevant team members in a timely manner.
  • Sign off responsibility for relevant documented processes
  • Ensure SCCTL maintains excellent data protection and privacy standards and policies
  • Willingness and ability to travel to location as required (including overnight stays)



Exceptional planning, organisational skills and problem-solving capabilities with excellent attention to detail
Excellent communication skills to be able to work across a fast-paced organisational team
Strong demonstrable experience delivering logistics and operational projects
Experienced in inventory and stock management
Strong IT skills across different software, especially Microsoft Office; Outlook, Excel, Word
Experience of coordinating and managing staff
Ability to continually reassess priorities as situations evolve and communicate this across the team
Flexible and adaptable, with an objective-orientated approach
Ability to drive a van (normal car license)


Experience and familiarity of working with production companies in all aspects of production
Experience of CRM software
Knowledge / experience working to and within ISO regulations
Experience taking a ‘hands-on’ approach
Willingness to travel as required
