British Exploring Society are recruiting for passionate, skilled leaders to join our 2019 expedition leadership teams to the Peruvian Amazon, Indian Himalayas, Canadian Yukon, Spanish Badlands, and Iceland.
British Exploring Society is a world class youth development charity with a unique heritage, founded on the belief that challenging experiences can change lives, empowering and equipping young people with the courage, skills, resilience and determination to make the most of their future.
Leading with British Exploring Society is a chance to work with young people on expeditions to remote locations where they face challenges, gain skills and learn about themselves - as well as acquiring knowledge relevant to their lives and to the fragile environments that they explore.
Our leader teams are made up of passionate volunteers, who bring with them a variety of skills and experience and come from a variety of backgrounds and ages. When surveying our Leaders from the last five years, 85% said they were better at their day job as a result of volunteering with British Exploring Society and 100% said they had learnt new skills through the experience.
Our expedition client group include young people from the ages of 16-25, from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances.
For our 2019 expeditions we are recruiting for the following roles:
- Adventure Leaders
- Science Leaders
- Media Leaders
- Social Leaders
- Expedition Medics
- Basecamp Managers
- Trainee Leader Mentors
- Chief and Deputy Chief Leaders
Full details of role requirements can be found through our website.
We are looking for applicants who are:
- Able and passionate about leading, inspiring, and teaching young people.
- Comfortable spending extended periods in remote and harsh environments.
- Able to commit to pre-expedition training weekends and are available for between 3 to 6 weeks from mid-July 2019 to end of August 2019.
As a charity all leader positions are undertaken on a voluntary basis and our leaders join for the intrinsic value of adventure, education and personal development of young people.
Prior to expedition all volunteer leaders will receive training and preparation. British Exploring Society will cover the cost of insurance, specialist equipment, expedition food and accommodation. Leaders will need to provide their own personal kit as well as vaccinations and visas (if applicable).
Leaders may claim expenses for UK training events and we do ask that first time leaders cover the cost of their flights.
