Description

Passionate about changing young people’s lives through sailing and the outdoors?

Looking for a shore-based opportunity managing sailing trips for young people?

Fancy living in a beautiful part of Scotland?

If you answered yes to these three questions, then we have just the role for you! This is a unique role that makes a real difference to the confidence of a young person in recovery from cancer.

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a national charity that rebuilds confidence after cancer, using sailing to support, empower and inspire.

Young people aged 8 to 24 in recovery from cancer can join sailing and residential trips organised by the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. Only after treatment ends can a young person start rebuilding their life following the devastation of cancer. We provide the bridge between treatment and a young person seizing the future they may never imagined possible.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Operations Manager within the Trust based in Largs, Scotland. This is a unique position as it is solely accountable for northern operations. You will manage the day-to-day operation of the Largs site and oversee the running of 12 sailing trips and two residential trips offering opportunities to over 320 young people in recovery from cancer each year.

You’ll work closely and collaboratively with the Operations Manager for southern operations who is based on the Isle of Wight, to ensure that young people experience the same confidence raising benefits on all trips through consistent delivery and underpinning processes.

Keeping young people safe is a core value of the Trust and the Operations Manager for the North currently leads on the safeguarding accountability across the Trust. The successful candidate will ideally possess a level 3 safeguarding qualification, or be prepared to gain one upon taking up the position.

This role sits within the Trust’s Leadership Team and will manage a small team based in Largs. The team as a whole:

  • Manages the journey from ‘first interest’ to ‘first day on a trip’ for young people working in partnership with a range of other organisations
  • Ensures trips are staffed with freelance skippers and volunteers with appropriate experience, training and accreditation
  • Plan, organise and support the logistics and delivery of the years trips.
  • Management of Volunteers and Skippers
  • Building relationships with suppliers and charter companies

As an RYA/MCA Yachtmaster you will have experience of managing a team and working with young people. Ideally you may be/or have been a Cruising or Yachtmaster Instructor. You will have experience of working within a leadership team and contributing to the strategic direction of an organisation. You will also have experience of managing budgets. Recruiting permanent and temporary staff is a key requirement of this role so experience in this will be essential.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who has a passion for working with young people and make a positive difference to their lives. This role will require an amount of evening and weekend working plus regular travel within the UK.

Salary £33,000 + benefits
